Into the Abyss

And so we watch the world turn once more,
unable to understand our individual significance.
In light of everything we've lost,
or with everything we've gained,
I still fail to realize how much I am
or how much I will be.
And here I stand,
at the edge of the world,
staring into the depths of the unknown,
trying to make sense of Father Time and all his flaws,
trying to comprehend our lives as each one flickers by.
Tonight I can dance,
but tomorrow I'll crawl
because I'm losing sight of what I've earned.
Love travels on the backs of our wings,
and here I am, abusing such a fragile thing.
If only love was simple as death or loss,
our hearts growing more fond with each passing moment,
apart from each other, from the rest of the world.
I can see the ocean in your eyes and the desert in my heart,
two souls meant to balance each other.
Yet here we stand once more,
unable to understand our significance,
As I take a step forward,
and fall through the Abyss,
forever lost among a sea of forgiveness, hate, and confusion.
