3 AM

Tossing and turning
You can't sleep
The clock reads 3am
but you can't see.
The feeling of cold, sheer darkness
creeping up your skin
like bugs at a camp site.
You get that empty feeling again
like your heart has dreams again.
You're miserable, but no one seems to know
Emotions running rampant in your eyes
none of which seem to show
what truly lies in the dark shadow of night.
You shake it off
but it doesn't work like math you never learned
debt from money you never earned
To yourself, you think:
"I'd text my girlfriend but she's already concerned"
as the thought of not graduating burns.
You envision yourself in the same room
lying in a sleepless position
to the side with the window view
blood on the sheets, as your parents wail with grief
never understanding what lie just beneath,
the hard exterior of a man reprieved.

Good poem. The character has a lot of strong feelings. Good detail as well.
