Foolish Train of Thought
I thought I knew what love was,
As I’ve fallen once or twice.
But when it ends and starts anew,
My heart always pays the price.
It bleeds for weeks or sometimes months,
Its strings pulled tight and taut.
A violin has looser cords,
Try and tie them in a knot.
A knot as once my stomach was,
When daydreaming of your smile.
That goofy grin, just above your chin,
Haven’t seen it in a while.
Chorus
I close my eyes and see it clear
Said my goodbyes with a hidden tear.
Wonder if I ever cross your mind
No, wait, wait, no, stop that right now.
Stop that foolish train of thought.
Why wonder things that aren’t true?
You should know it’s all for naught.
So, I still don’t know what love is,
But a flutter in my heart,
Learning all the facts I can of you,
What a living work of art.
