My Hero (9/11)

One day shocked the world forever.

Smoke was in the air as cries echoed everywhere.

I was home that day, playing with dolls like any other day.

Only the day differed from the rest. The day stood still.

My mother rushed into two buildings without a second thought.

No mask. No hazard suit. Just determination.

My hero. Their hero.

Wives, husbands, and children sent letters.

Kind words but I was grateful and sad.

Grateful she came home, sad other children could not get the same outcome.

Eighteen years have passed.

I am a college student looking to tell History.

So the world may never forget.

My officer.

My hero.
