Temper

Sunlit hues of the evening's birth mirror the flame of passion igniting in my chest.

It's almost as though the sun receeds to make room for the tumult arising.

My heart beats as the stars appear; slowly at first, but then with an overwhelming fervency.

Maybe this spirit of fire is to combat the cold comatose world.

So long did I find solace in the stone-lit night.

So long did the eyes of kinship become clouded with sleep and covered with dreams.

Your words scream with promise, your very look affirms your loyalty.

I know I won't be free of you unless I cut the cord.

Where the bond was once of rope and chain, I now feel that is of flesh;

A living organ that holds my lifeblood.

So long did I breathe on my own.

So long did my heart sustain itself in independent rhythm.

Now, the blood that pumps from my heart and brain is exchanged for yours through the cord.

Through this you know me.

And your knowing isn't confined to the present.

I feel the familiarity is remniscent of a future.

So long starlight nights of isolation,

So long margin for a dead heart.

This cord binds us and calls for mutual reliance.

I can no longer live in cold-blooded apathy, for the sentiment will pulse to your heart.

For your sake my heart can't burn high with passion.

I must temper my heart to better this bond.

Day by day it grows stronger as I learn in stride.
