You Know?

You know, I used to think that I knew you and you knew me.

and then I’d think fondly back on all the things that we’ve been through.

like when we’d lay upon the ground to stare up at our tree.

and you’d whisper words that made blush a brand new roesy hew.

like when we’d sing and clap our hands and stomp our feet in jubilation

and I would sing just wishing God would somehow hear my prayer

like when adults would come and scold us for our Harmonization

and you’d just laugh and take my hand and sing on without a care.

like when we’d  sit away from all the others as they played

and we’d learned to ignore the world just gaze up at the sky

like when the summers come and we’d watch flowers as they swayed

and you’d just lift a hand and caress my face to say goodbye.

You know I used to think that you knew me and I knew you

But you're gone and I’m left here hoping everything I thought was true.
