  • He created the idea of the romantic hero with his novel The Sorrows of Young Werther in 1774.

 

  • At the time of the 19th century, he owned the largest collection of minerals in all of Europe.

 

  • Goethe was multilingual, as he could speak Greek, Italian, Latin, English, Hebrew, and French besides his native German.
