Without Me I am Not Me

Is it petty of me to not immediately name my family?

Am I a bad person for not pointing out a friend?

Is it a sign of not being humble enough that I do not whisper the name of God?

Maybe I'm hateful? Maybe I'm frightful?

Surely you must hope my next words will be truly insightful.

My apologies.

I am quite sorry.

That hope of yours unfortunately will have to be laid to rest next to all these other wannabes.

Thoughts, ideas, people, places and things. I have found that without me I am not me.

Shall I say it again since you seem so confused?

I have found that without me I am not me.

Without the person in the mirror, illuminating things and making them clearer I am not me.

All too often people leave themselves behind hoping to become someone new in order to adapt to their surroundings.

But you see if this is the me that has adapted and gotten me to this point, how can I be expected to leave home without her.

I might as well be on trial for murderer as I watch them compare the blood spatters, which is the only evidence of our separation.

Was it petty of me to not immediately name my family?

Am I a bad person for not pointing out a friend?

Is it a sign of not being humble enough that I do not whisper the name of God?
