Who Gave You the Right

Location

I am not another grade in your class

I am not another statistic

I am not an A student

I am not a D student

Who gave you the right to call me average?

You have given me a voice

Then told me I cannot use it in the school’s public building

You have told me not to bully

Then you let it happen at your school

Who gave you the right to decide right from wrong?

You told me I could be whatever I wanted

You failed to mention the cost of being what you want

You failed to mention the GPA you need to achieve what you want

You failed to mention these realities you need to get what you want

Who gave you the right to give me false hope?

You award the bad for being good

In this gold star generation

Expecting the good to remain good

Who are you to be giving out gold stars?

I may be average by your standards but not my own

I will take my hard earned B and be successful

I will take the voice you gave me and change the world

I will decide right from wrong based on my own morals

I will achieve my dreams despite the restrictions you put on them.
