Welcome

Dear The New Year,

I am nearly 18

58 days till to be exact

I am nearly an adult

But really

I am a child

I am a child left behind

Not academically

Emotionally

I am a child wishing to be an adult

A child about to become an adult

Soon

Very, very soon

Will I change

Will I have the answers

No

8, 9, 10

12, 14, 16

18

Age is a number

Just a silly number

Irrelevant

Days

Birthdays, holidays

Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years

Just days

Numbers within a month

Months

Numbers within a year

Years

Numbers within a life

It is said life is short

Am I short lived

17 years

204 months

6,205 days

Add 4 for the leap years lived

17 birthdays, thanksgivings, Christmases, and new years

17 fresh starts

new beginnings

second chances

New years resolutions

Eat healthier

Lose weight

Live better

Lets be real

Honest

True

To ourselves

I don't need validation

From men

From family

From strangers

From anyone

Live for myself

Put everything

Everything

Into academics and myself

Be the bigger person

One last time

Try

Then don't give up

Simply drop

Drop arrogant drama

Drop extra stress

Put myself and my future first

Above everything

I am amazing

I am smart

I am beautiful

I am sexy

It is a new year

The year I become an adult

It is not time for a new me

Simply a better me

So 2017,

Thank you

For teaching me who and what I am

Thank you

Welcome 2018

Welcome me
