Water

She’s like an animal,
Ravaging cities
Taking cars
To their tomb in the sea

Running her fingers
Through the hairs of those she passes
Tearing through clotheslines
And flowerbeds, too

And she destroys houses
Like they offended her specifically
And banks, and the grocery
Store on the corner

And when we see her coming,
We send the alarm
Run from nature, we cry;
Run from the storms.
