WARNING: Reflection Distorted Due To Society

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Behold; a world where beauty may lie in ones eyes
But society’s voice speaks otherwise,
-Skinny
-Flawless skin
-Abs
-White Teeth

This is what magazines,
television,
individuals,
scream at us as adolescents fighting to find ourselves.
Fighting for acceptance,
Fighting to be "beautiful".

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Behold; A young girls confidence shattering
just as easily as a mouth opening,
and ignorant words pour out.
Society’s voice speaks,
-Acne
-Glasses
-Braces
-Fat

This is what a young girl hides,
For she can't be beautiful for her intelligence,
her kindness,
her honesty,
at least not according to society.
This is what a young girl hides,
as she fights for acceptance,
Fights to be "beautiful".

Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder
when society forces images of beauty into our minds?
I'll never be beautiful she decides,
as she's pushed down a path of depression, isolation.
How will she ever think she’s "beautiful",
when around every corner,
society is waiting to tell her she's not?
