Villanelle of the Two-Sided Girl

Pay no attention to these tears

See only the plastered smile

I must ignore my fears.

This done-up makeup will soon smear

These nails were once in perfect file.

Pay no attention to these tears.

This is more than the tumult of a sphere;

For you, my dear, I'd run a million miles.

I must ignore my fears.

I have fallen through the years,

Yet I was an angel for a while.

Pay no attention to these tears.

I fear my own end nears,

Come and stay, if I am not too vile.

I must ignore my fears.

My vision blears,

Yet through it all I smile.

Pay no attention to these tears,

I must ignore my fears.
