Underwater

Do you hear the sound of the waves?
A sound you just know will always be there.
That's what it's like for me.
But it's getting harder to bear.

Somewhere cold, dark,
Like you’re sinking into a pit.
You can't move, you can't breathe.
Almost unconscious, like you've been hit.

Yet you are fully aware of what is going on.
And all you want is to gain some form of control.
But instead you just keep still, unmoving
Falling deeper into the hole.

Pitch-blackness.
No sound, only your breath.
You cannot see but,
You feel the rise and fall of your chest.

Reaching out, moving your body
Into darkness to see what you can find.
Imagining and remembering,
Takes control over the mind.

Panic sets in, and all rational thinking gone.
Worry, doubts, concerns
Flood into your head
As you begin to learn.

Life takes some roads
Which are not warm, sunny days at the beach.
An extended hand into where you cannot see
For yin and yang must have a little of each.

Eventually you just stop trying,
And the sounds of the waves cease.
Letting the real story fold up
Crease by crease.
