Under my Veneer

Location

Am I bound in this one body?

I have such a multifarious disposition that it seems it cannot be so.

Yet I am

Here, all of me.

I lack symmetry,

but doesn't everyone?

A piece of me cannot escape

the materialism that encircles me.

It has branded me

with its barcode.

But that's not who I Want to be.

Still

an allotment of my soul is given

to nature.

For all my obscurity, I keep

a hat -

a covering

over my many colors.

My polychromatic soul

is not always understood.

This covering is my show -

my Veneer.

Underneath it

I am imbued

with canary timidity,

azure depression,

titian courage,

viridian newness,

florid passion.

I am stippled with black darkness,

which is covered

by my shiny coat.
