Looking through a black girls eye
What do you see?
Ignorance is not uncommon
It’s everything it can be
Looking through a black girls eyes
I see pain
Pain that cannot be changed overnight
It’s not always easy to stay sane
Looking through a black girls eyes
I stare at myself through a mirror
I look good I guess
The mirrors foggy, I should look clearer
I enjoy my curves
But society says other wise
I enjoy my skin
But society says other wise
I enjoy my hair
But society says other wise
Just stop!
How does society have the right to choose what beauty is?
Does it matter the shape of my body?
My voluptuous curves that create my figure
Does it matter the length of my hair?
Should it matter the texture?
My hair so thick
Tight coils are a pleasure
Does it matter the tone of my skin?
Should my personality reflect my complexion?
Light skin, dark skin, brown skin
It’s all black
So why the objection?
As black people, we need to come together
Instead of putting ourselves down
We need to love each other
Through a black girls eyes
I see this on the daily
If we keep this up we’ll never change
And if we do, just barely
