For the first time, his arm swept around another girl,
I knew that he was walking away,
An ant in the field, smaller and smaller to see.
I was naïve, I sat on the sidelines
Watching and Encouraging her to paint a mystical dance around him.

"When do you know that you let something good get away?"
I sobbed to my best friend.
We had been talking of chances lost.
With a somber mourning she answered,
"You know when you find a hole left in your heart"

A year later I glow thinking about that wild ride,
The people we must let go
Transformed by our infinite love for them.
I who did not lose, who is still winning,
Still talking about chances lost with time,
Opening and seeking love in another.
