Steel Shoebox

Despite living in an area filled with lights; it still lacks stars.

Despite having an immense crowd of people; individuals are still lonely.

Despite the city, being filled with department stores; individuals have empty closets.

Despite having the tallest homes; individuals are homeless.

Despite being an industrialized power center; individuals are powerless in their daily lives.

Despite having advanced technology; individuals are still left clueless.

Despite it being filled with laws and regulations; it is filled with vices and addictions.

Despite the opportunity of wisdom and knowledge; it is cashed in for the life that was taken.

Despite all of the efforts and reforms; nothing has changed.

In spite of it all, the air thickens.

My reality becomes brittle.

My goals become dreams.

My fears become limitless.

My happiness becomes a profit.
