qui je suis*

Location

Our ancestry shall not define us
We are as much a piece of the past
As an integral portion of the future
And yet we are not only that

We are the curves of calligraphy
We are the tips of falling leaves
We are every tint of blue and black
We are the medium of light rays

Flesh simply does not fulfill our meaning
Through history they speak of a soul
Such entities cannot be confined in flesh
Nor in the words of bone and sinew

Instead, I beg, embrace imagination
Let the images of nature seep within
This is how you may define us
Bound by no words, we are.

*"qui je suis" (french) = "who I am"
