A Promise You Can't Keep

You said you wouldn’t forget me,
You said you’d always have time for me.
But lately all I hear
Is you making excuses.
You don’t want to remember me,
You don’t want to see me.

What did I do
To deserve this from you?
What could I have done so wrong,
Were you just pretending all along?
You used to be the reason I couldn’t sleep.
You used to be the reason I was still breathing.
Why pretend,
Why and try to make a promise you can’t keep?

I pulled you back from that ledge.
Showed you it’s not right to end your young life.
Told you life gets better.
Not once did I ever get a ‘thank you.’

What did I do
To deserve this from you?
What could I have done so wrong,
Were you just pretending all along?
You used to be the reason I couldn’t sleep.
You used to be the reason I was still breathing.
Why pretend,
Why and try to make a promise you can’t keep?

If I was as important as you say,
If I was the reason you’re still alive today,
If I was the one who took away your pain,
How could you ever treat me this way?
