Photograph

There's a girl in a photograph
She's three years old
Throws a fit potty training
Doesn't like girls underwear
So mom buys her boxers
Spiderman briefs make everything better

There's a girl in a photograph
She's five years old
Kindergarten photo
Wearing an oversized blue polo shirt
She couldn't be happier
She found it in the boy's section

There's a girl in a photograph
8 years old
Teary eyed and her hair is a mess
Just ran a cross country race
Couldn't be more upset
She screams "I got beat by a girl"
Her sister beat her by two minutes

There's a girl in a photograph
12 years old
Mom paints a mustache and beard on her for a school presentation
She takes extra long in the bathroom mirror
Looking at the mascara strokes on her chin
Wishing one day hair would replace them

There's a girl in a photograph
15 years old
She is smiling but you don't know she cries everynight
Looks in the mirror searching for anything else but what she is seeing
She spends hours watching videos on top surgery and testosterone
When you find out she tells you she clicked on them by accident
The internet says it gets better
She says the internet is full of bullshit

There's a boy in a photo
16 years old
Face painted and flag tied around his shoulders
He's at his first pride
HE is in a city across the country
Where know one knows the girl in the photograph
He wears a smile and a look of relief
Even though mom says she always saw the boy in the photograph
Now the world gets to see who was always in those photos
