Phoenix Tears

Cancer

 

The word wrapping around

you

like the tumor

that continues to move

sweeping melancholy through

the veins

 

To young ears such a

scary word

 

Now 10 years later

a remembrance of death  

a brand of Hades

sweeping under

your feet

pulling your skin

sinking from radiation

deep into the ground

his sweet laugh

trickling you into

that personal hell

 

A young daughters

tears

quietly drop

onto a mothers

hand, praying

she becomes

the

phoenix

that she has

never known she’s

wanted to

be
