Our Old Red Wheel

I awoke to the sounds of laughter and rushing steel

To the smells of baking sweet

To the feel of lacquered wood

To the taste of candied cherry wheat

But when I opened my eyes

My sight beholden onto me a single image

Forever in my memory lies

A scene that comes but once in a lifetime

I saw you standing above me

Your eyes as blue as the sea

Your hair golden lilies shifting in the gentle breeze

Your lips as vibrant as a candy apply

Your smile a knife cutting through mercury

Your dress swaying to keep in time with your stunning figure

As your beauty is silhouetted by a black and white world

I glanced up at the sky

The fading flash captured this ikon

On the walls of my retina

In front of me stood that old crimson ring

At that moment, I understood I was here.

Not in some closed space or viewing some constructed reel

But holding your hand, my Dear.

As he watched over us, like he had done so many times before, protecting with all his being

As the light faded on this blackened world, what remains is just Us.

You and I and our old sagacious red Ferris Wheel.
