Opposites

We dye our hair crazy colors.

They call us “ghetto”.

They dye their hair crazy colors.

They call them “hipsters”.

We twerk.

They call us “ratchet”.

They twerk.

They call them “innovators”.

We fight for our rights.

They call us “angry black women”.

They fight for their rights.

They call them “feminists”.

We wear our natural hair.

They call ours’ “nappy”.

They were their natural hair.

They call them “beach waves”.

Our men are involved in shootings.

They say they were “thugs and criminals”.

Their men are involved in shootings.

They say they were “good students who felt unhappy”.

We stand proud and protect what’s ours.

They call us “aggressive”.

They stand proud and protect what’s theirs.

They call them “fearless”.
