Open Up

Poor girl, I see how you hurt.
Set against you is your own life,
Gives you so much struggle and strife.
You're pushed facedown into the dirt.

Dear child, why don't you seek
The help and love you need?
You cannot live without this feed.
Your pain has reached its peak.

There are those who would care,
If only they could know.
Sweet baby, let the words flow.
Open your heart if you dare.

Yet you shut your mouth tight.
Too scared to expose yourself,
You hide your pain high on a shelf.
Poor child, you fight with all your might.

Is it so hard for you
To be vulnerable and trust others?
They're not strangers, but sister, brothers.
Trust isn't such a bad thing to do.

And sweetie if you hide your pain
For too long I think you'll find
It hurts more to keep it confined
Than to be treated inhumane.

For if you open up and yet
Are rejected all the same,
You are at least not to blame.
Not knowing is worse than the threat.

So don't be afraid, little one,
Of those outside your own mind.
More so than you think, they are kind.
Realize this and your pain is done.
