Only One Tongue

Location

I can speak three languages

In one sentence.

I can understand five,

Being spoken all at once.

So why is it that I can’t help

One little girl, lost and alone in a new country.

Not many seem to understand how hard it is

To be thrown somewhere new,

Without any support or background.

When she smiles,

I hope she can comprehend just how far she’s come,

From the start.

Every day is unknown,

Everyone a mystery.

But when she speaks, and smiles, and understands!

The words I have been telling her,

It makes me proud

To know that one language

Can connect us both.
