Ode to Madame M

Ode to Madame M
I suppose few people will ever know
The full extent to which you have shaped me.
You taught me grace, to not hide my face, so
I owe you the confidence others see.

You took that shy and trembling freshman,
And made her into a confident girl.
Still quiet, still herself, but still something more than,
She had ever appeared to be before.

You, the mama bird who taught me to fly,
Speaking up, looking up, those sort of things.
At times it was hard and I questioned why,
But pushed out of my nest, you gave me wings.

I thank you and thank God for your time here,
Thank you for the laughs, thank you for the tears .
