nobody said it was easy

The gentle rocking of a
heavy metal coffin
rocks her to sleep
Instead of the pleasant
beat of her child’s
heart.

Cries can be heard
even miles away
Images of laughter do not
suffice for the aching
heart.

Holidays pass, birthdays gone
just waiting for the fateful
day when the rocking coffin
docks and the mother is once
again reunited with child.
