More Than a Spark

There is a fire in my soul

That I can never live without.

There is this will to continue

Even when I wish to give up.

Try as the world may,

But I can never lose this fire.

It is me

And I am it

And separating us is like

Separating the stars from the summer’s night.

The fire is who I am

For everything that went wrong in my life

For every time my hope shattered

My fire never extinguished.

This fire I cannot live without

Even as the flames scorch my lungs and lick my skin

I am bound to this fire

For it is the poison that gives me life.

The fire is what has molded me to who I have become

And I have molded it to my control.

Don’t try to dowse my flames

This is who I am

And for as long as I am

I will burn.
