More Than America

A second class citizen or maybe a third,

To be first you must be rich, no matter how absurd.

You get points if your white, or have a nice sounding name,

For the Latoya's and A-Arons, you'll get naught but shame.

But even that doesn't matter if you've got tons of money,

No bibles or brotherhood in this land of milk and honey.

Just a rat race with one finish line for rich and for poor,

We ignore it, we grind on, till at the death house door.

But still in this country, there are a few that stay true,

through trials and fires through paying unjust dues.

They fight for their freedoms, their flames and their passions,

Without them, just darkness, no hope and no bastions.

I admit in this country, we've more freedom than most,

but we warp it and corrupt it, like a parasyte to it's host.

We disregard our ethics far too easily,

freedom and the chance to pursue happiness, true liberty.

No matter what color, or what creed or religion,

The 0s in your bank account or the Horsepower of your transmission.

By a person's ideals, their ability and virtue

With that we can strive, grow better and dreams come true.

I do love America, but not more than humanity,

Too many choose the former with the latter suffering from depravity.

Empires come and go, and so too do whole species,

What we have now is the chance to make real what we believe.

We the Living are what's now, but we won't always be,

So I implore you, strive greatly, do your best, and be your kindest before we leave.
