Monsters

Location

When we were all children
We kept a blanket over our head
Because if we didn't we'd see
The monsters come out from under our beds

As we grew up
We lost our fear of the darkness
And even forgot about
The creatures that hide in it

For some of us
The monsters and creatures grew stronger
They became more resistant to the light
Allowing them to stay around longer

And without the blanket we all once used
There was no protection for us to have
And we slowly watched our joyful selves
Retreat into something broken and sad

I want to know what happened in the dark,
What happened over those years
That blinded me from where I was
And dragged me to here

Because sometime in all those years
As the monsters came out from under my bed
They crawled in through my ears
And ended up inside my head
