Mistake

My friends beckoned me,

“We’ll teach you to swim.

I shook my head “No,” I thought,

“I will truly drown.

So I lived through my books on the stable, safe ground.

“Come,” said my family,

“We’ll teach you how to fly.”

No, I proclaimed,

"I will surely fall"

So I sat with my booked life and politely curse them all

“Come” He said,

“I will show you what love is”

No, I cried,

"My heart shall surely break"

But I trusted him anyway

And that was my Mistake
