The Man Across My Street

There's a man

Across my street

He's there everyday

Staring straight at me

Men walk by him

He smiles

Hes says “Hello boys, how are you?”

They beat him up

When i go out to help

He acts as if nothing happened

He asks how my day was

And if i'm alright

When i try to give him food

He says i need it more

I try to give him ice to help

But he says to keep it for my drinks

I look up

It starts to rain

The man tells me to go home

You might get wet he says

I ask, “what about you?”

He replies “your young and worth the world”

“You are will always come first”

I go home and fall asleep

The next morning i go to ring the man breakfast

Outside on his corner is all his stuff

But no sign of him

He's never gone

I call the police looking for him

They come and tell me he's in the hospital

He was struck by lightning

By time we get to the hospital he was gone

The nurse gave me a note

It read “My beautiful daughter

I hope i made you smile everyday

I wish i could've been there for you last year”

My father was taken away a year ago

He was found guilty of the murder of my mother

My mother killed herself

But my dad didn't want my grandparents to find out

I would have been taken away

If they knew my mother killed herself

My dad stayed outside to watch me everyday

I never recognized him and he wanted it that way

And the gang out the street would beat him

And i never stopped them

Yet my dad always kept a smile on when i came to the corner

I was his world and he never showed his pain to me

Show kindness

Be nice

Show love

You'll never know when someone you love will be gone
