Lost Generation

I live in a lost generation,

Where everyone is lost and mindless.

Where young girls’ ideas of beauty

Come from  photoshopped  images on  magazine covers.

I live in a lost generation,

Where every adult is scared of what our future will look like.

I live in a lost generation,

Where high hopes are disappearing from our very souls.

I live in a lost generation,

Where drugs are easier to find than happiness.

I live in a lost generation,

Where relationships are based on sex and not love.

Where teenagers are so down they believe the only way out of the darkness

Is to end their own lives.

Where parents don’t hold their kids to responsibility

And wonder where they went wrong.

I live in a lost generation,

Where kids are too afraid to go to school,

Scared someone will tear them down with words or fists.

Where the pain kids feel are ignored.

Where every excuse is “They’re just kids being kids.”

I live in a lost generation,

Where kids are growing up without fathers or mothers,

Where girls don’t know not to let guys use and abuse them,

Where boys don’t know how to be respectful and  educated.

Manners don’t exist,

Violence surrounds us,

Getting drunk is normal,

And abstinence is disgraceful.

I live in a lost generation,

Where standards get lower with intelligence.

Pants sag, grades drop, nonsense words are formed.

I live in a lost generation,

Where tears roll down our faces,

But we are told to get over it.

Our lives are chosen for us.

We have no free will.

I live in a lost generation.

I love this poem. I completely understand what you are talking about. It seems like everywhere I look around me people are losing hope.
