Lonely Gods

We are but lonely gods;
Divine primary partners
In creation
Stumbling in vain for
Ephemeral sleep in starlight.
Speaking in soft slumber
Of our most noble pride,
Patient love raptured in faith and hope
Wrought by the wise masters
Named pain and temporal fragility
Who say to remember "Bhagavad Gita"
That the heart will break but
The world's woes will wear on,
For the tree of knowledge
Is not the tree of life.
Are we unknowing criminals then?
Whose greatest mistake was
Loving more so than we should?
Millions of restless wanders
Who sought only refuge in the
Silent shrines one builds in the heart,
Trying to see ourselves
In the dark mirrors of another's gaze.
Hoping that our labors reach fruition
Like May buds blooming from Aprils showers.
Know this then and take solace in it;
No pain was borne in vain,
That the day will come
When you experience a
Passionate gravity so strong
That you find intemperance in
Indulging just one more second with them,
That you'll love like the waves
Taking absence with the sand.
Always pulled back and never truly departing from one another.
Two lions on a foamy esplanade
Where the Angels will shush the world silent
And you will become the living word,
The music of the masters,
Beauty that is the art of humanity
In stark naked form.
