Listen
i close my eyes
the sounds:
the buzz of a nearby streetlamp
an ambulence calling like a wolf in the distance
a car's growing "whish" as it passes in the street puddles, leftover from the evening rain
my breath--scattered and inconsistent--shivering at the cold
the cold shivering back
my heartbeat.
audible? no.
but my ears knew it was there
i open my eyes and heard nothing.
the light has flickered off
the ambulence found a home in the horizon
the car is gone
my breath is a memory
and the beat of my heart fell silent to my vision
these eyes know nothing
