Late Night Thoughts
I live in a world that claims to be modernized
Where acceptance based on race, class, gender is all expected
Now realise, much to my demise
ACCEPTance is EXPECTed but in the end the majority is REJECTed
I live in a world that claims free speech
But if my opinion does not match yours
My words you will leech
Until my originality is no longer a reality
You see free has a fee nowadays
Read the fine print
Walk far from the edge
On the same path that you used to reject
Don't be yourself thats overrated
What worth does your opinion have?
You can't make a statement
You're just a kid
Don't speak until your spoken to
Your worth is what they make of you
Well I refuse to accept this contempt and silencing
I am no longer a lamb
Lead by fear and intimidation
I am equal among man
I will help rebuid this nation
I am no longer afraid to speak
I will not be spoken to I will be spoken with
This is not my peak
But my upward journey still
Now sit and listen
And do not speak until spoke to
My words have for too long been cut off
Anixously waiting at the tip of my tongue
On the edge, ready to jump off
I disagree
I do not see the world through the same foggy lense as you
I cannot be
If you do not let me be myself through and through
I cannot be your perfect daughter
Unless you change your perception of perfection
To include all my disagreements and flaws
And not restrict me by your old-fashioned laws
Because I want to finally modernize this world
I want to live in harmony
Not merely pretend to be
And ignore all the seperation and distain amongest man
I want my freedom in the land of the free
My childern will not fear such oppression
They will not keep secrets from me in fear of rejection
They will be loved unconditonally
I wonder, could you ever do the same for me?
