I Thought We Were in Love

I thought we were in love.

I thought you'd stay forever.

But you left me,

You never replied.

Until one day-

You said you were protecting me.

You said you weren't good enough for me.

And I thought we were in love.

Suddenly you began to use me,

To abuse me.

And I let you.

I let you hurt me.

I let you take my virtue.

Because I thought we were in love.

I will never forget the night I left you.

Or the hours I spent staring at the ceiling with a tear stained face.

Or the days I spent learning to love myself.

I can't believe I ever thought we were in love.
