I am the Sea

Wed, 08/14/2013 - 01:16 -- ShilohA

You love the land,

The forest during the night when everything is a dark gray,

And the occasional moonlight that peeps through the shadowed leaves

The wide green meadows filled with bluebells,

The rolling hills covered in trees,

The rough mountains of the Highlands where thistles with their purple flowers grow.

I love the sea,

The calm, gentle blue-green waves that stroke the shore,

The beauty of the stars as they reflect off of the surface,

When the waves roughen and crash down on the land,

The fierce anger of the storm,

That calms back into rolling waves.

You sit and watch the birds sing in the trees,

The hawks and the eagles that soar high on the currents of the wind,

The deer that grazes peaceful in the meadow with her fawn by her side,

The spotted leapord who crouches in the branch of a tall tree waiting for an unwary animal to come,

The salmon who leap high up the rushing waterfall.

What of the children of the waves?

The beauty of the dolphins as they jump and dance on the surf,

The seals with their sleek, furry bodies,

The orca even with all its beauty and grace is still a hunter.

You were drawn by the mystery of the sea away, away from your land,

You found that you loved the roll of the deck under your feet,

You loved the salty spray that stroked your face,

Yet in the midst of the storm you longed for your land.

You returned to your land,

Yet you’ll find I’m always there,

In the back of your mind,

Try as you might,

Resist all you like,

I’ll always call you back,

No matter how far you run,

There’s one thing I know for sure,

You’ll always end up back here with me.

I am the sea,

I am gentle and terrible,

I am love,

Yet my fury is so great that even the bravest man cowers when faced by it,

I am the sea.
