I am a lie

I am a lie

Not the kind that breaks apart families

No. I am much more subtle than that

The kind of truth that doesn't seem right

I'm what you tell yourself,

right before you say hello.

And just after you've said goodbye.

I am the space,

between where your hand was held.

And where they were kissed.

I am the memory,

of when we first met.

The daylight threw shadows, i'll never forget.

I am the gut-wrenching pain,

Of the sadness contained

In all the tiny little ways.

I am the darkness, acting as your light.

Turning your misery to cold delights,

as the world crumbles around us.

Your skin so soft begins to die,

through all that pain we did not cry

When the house burned down, our hopes died

in a fire so cold it froze the seas.

near a path that'll always bring you back to me.
