I am
Location
No, I am afraid you’re wrong.
I am words
And lyrics
I am “tell me that I am everything you need.”
No, I am not silence.
I am tears and laughs
And kisses and touches
I am “stop, you are better than this”
I cannpt be yours.
I am much too free
I am so far gone
That I hover over clouds
And they look to me and say
“You are higher than we could ever be.”
I cannot be owned.
I am too much of the sea
And the trees
That let go of their leaves
They look down at me and whisper
“It is okay to let go of your dead parts.”
I cannot be changed.
I am much too important
To the places I have been;
Inside walls and on skin
And when I touch them, they both say
“Thank you. We will not forget you.”
We are not just adjectives.
We are an aspect
Of the universe
Worth more than gold
Worth what we give
Not what we receive.
No, we are not broken.
We are the weird side
To this race.
But we are everything
This world means;
Not what is has become
By the hands of the fools.
So no, I am afraid you are wrong.
I am bruised knees
And all of ongoing time
That promises me
“You are full of undying rage.”
