How Blank is Our Canvas

I'm not a blank canvas for the artist to devour
Nature versus nurture, the hot debate of the hour
LGBT, a community met with a staggering glower
The humans represented have been robbed of all their power
Children are not born scraps of paper white as flour
Like a coloring book with the lines inked in there's only so much society can sour
A boy put in a dress will either wilt or start to flower
Forbidding two people from marriage only makes their spirits dour
Was I born this way or raised this way, a question that can tower
Dispositions cannot be erased no matter how hard the world may scour
Nature versus nurture, a fiery war needing an icy shower
Until the equation reads 'and' not 'or' their hearts I hope to empower
