Hope lies in Kindness

Tangled trees all twisted by time

And vacant trails warped by the mind.

Every branch reaching and pulling me along the way

Reminding me that someday I will have to pay

There’s nowhere to run; nowhere to hide;

Not one safe haven where I can abide.

And deeper into the forest tread

I run without a place to rest my head.

I stumble and trip and tear open flesh

Awaiting the fall that will make my death.

Soon I am caught by the tangled trees all twisted by time

And the vacant trails warped by the mind

And all I can do, and all I can ask

Is for a new found hope and a new found path.

Something personal to me is mental health. I know how it feels to feel trapped and lonely, wishing to share life with someone who can take my mind off of my worries and troubles. The forest represents the feeling of being trapped and the figure running through the forest goes through the long journey of searching for a way out and a better life. This could apply to children whose parents are abusive and they want out, a partner in an abusive relationship wondering if things will always be like this, or someone who badly wants to find peace in the world and hope to hold onto.
