Hey You

Location

Hey you…

Yeah, you.

The girl with all the scars and stories to tell.

The boy who sits alone in the corner,

The child with a black eye from “falling down the stairs”,

I’m here for you,

Now and forever.

I’ll kiss all the pain away,

Keep you company in the darkness,

And take your precious hand into the light.

The claws of society can be filed,

A cork put in its sharply-lined jaw.

I am here for you,

Here to slay the beast,

To push the darkness away.

Because if nobody else will,

Damn it…I will!

I speak for those who cannot speak for themselves,

I fight for those who aren’t armed with the gift of words,

And save those who do not have a hero.

I don’t expect any reward, any praise.

Because the real gold lies in one’s heart.

No prize can replace the girl with clean wrists, the boy with newfound friends, or the child in a loving home.

I do what I do not for pride,

Not even the knowledge that what I do is “right”

Or to clear my name of a tumoltous past,

I do  what my mom always said,

“Do what needs to be done”.
