The Heart

The heart beats slowly.

No movements, no sound.

Shallow breathes taken soft, silent, painful.

The heart beats steady.

No words, no movements, no sound.

Eyes held ready.

No movement, no vitals, no tears.

The heart cracks.

No help, no bandaids, no doctors.

Body shutting down.

No motion, no warmth, no reaction.

The heart breaks.

No cries, no story, no fix.

The heart beats shallow.

No feeling, no pain, nothing more to say.

As the heart slows, slows and slows; on its shallow cold way.

The heart stops.

No words are spoken.

No sound is made.

A long dreaded beep echos, all the way down the hall.

As they cover the heart to hide pain, the silent beeps quiet, as the heart falls asleep silent.
