Freedom

Sun, 03/03/2013 - 17:37 -- rvice

I hear the sound of guns
"Bam" "bam" “bam”
I hear the screams from afar
The horrified screams like nails
Nails screeching across a chalkboard
I hear the sound of laughter
As it fills the air
Kids playing
They don't know
I hear the joyful sound of dice
Hitting a game board
As a family plays a board game
I hear rejoicing
Over a football game
I hear laughter, and rejoicing in a warm home
I hear all of this because, of you
We are free
I hear a girl
Frightened like a kitten without its mother
I see her scared blue eyes
They fill with tears
She feels abandonment and confusion
I hear guns going off in the distance
I hear screams from afar
I hide in terror
Alone and unknowing of what will be
I shudder
As I shake the thought out of my head
As I think of a world
A world without justice
A world filled with terror, sorrow and no freedom
The freedom to do, say and come and go as we please
So I say thank you for all the hard work
Things gone wrong and pain and sadness that you went through
I thank you for standing up when no one else would
So I say thank you
Thank you
