A Flower for Eternity

Communication, trust, passion, and dedication -
are these four factors considered to be a part of a healthy relationship?
Who am I to say, for when I was there
I was swallowed into an endless nightmare.

First love, there was a time where I was pure
Untainted, naive, clean from any dirt.
Until she arrived, out of this world
my heart, once settled, began to swirl.

Foolish me, when I once believed
her compassion for me would be for eternity.
Never – everyone who knew me saw it coming to an end.
All had the same thoughts: “their bond is just pretend.”

I knew it was all false, but my mind was running –
“What are you doing wrong? Why is she acting?”
But a flower – an eternal flawless flower came
and stayed by my side, without any shame.

Hesitantly, quietly, slowly, steadily, I picked it up
though the flower was always there, I ended up covering up.
A river ran down my cheeks, but I didn’t know why
until I thought it was too late, so I quietly sighed.

A fourth of a decade passed, another step into my life
Scarred from before, I still decided to take a stride.
Towards him, hoping for a different ending, I swore –
I ended up laughing because I suffered even more.

Mistake after mistake, loss after loss
maybe love just wasn’t for me after all?
Then that one fateful night, my eternal flower confessed
“I really like you, my feelings were just a mess.”

Who am I to declare what a healthy relationship requires?
For it varies for all and might even backfire.
But once you have surpassed the endless nightmare
your eternal flower will blossom, and reach out to you in care.
