only surface

not bone deep

I couldn't understand

the why or how

but then i did

I understood

it wasn't for attention

or gasping desperation

it was for the pain

The need for relief and expression

and the contemplation

of whether I should go

or stay

more a cry for help

and sturdy support

that led to
