Fear-filled Man Sonnet
Location
Slowly the old man wanders down the steps
His knees don’t bend and his eyes barely see
He falls, curses the world under his breath
He wanted his young nurse to set him free
When younger he had been a fear-filled man
He sighed numerous times in great defeat
At age twenty-eight then his life began
His wife, his child, came and went in a beat
Age brought fear but today his heart content
He sat back on his porch and hummed a tune
The life he had at least he’d had and spent
He knew he’d see them both in heaven soon
He was relishing life as old men should
Life would roll on, fear was good, life was good.
