you wake up and it's heavy
like a breath of stale air
people stare
and no one's there
and it's too much to bare

you wake up and it's like
the world is on your back
and as hard as you try to get cut some slack
it's a full blown attack
and you're tired of combat

you wake up and you're
too tired to hold a gun
you're flat out
done
and you've spent so long in the dark
you've forgotten the sun

you wake up filled with dread
about the life you have led
and the things you have said
and you think
for a second
'i'm better off dead'

you wake up and in the dark
you notice in a fright that
something's not right
it looks kind of bright
and you see a glimmer of...
light?

you wake up and you sense something new
out of the blue
and with hope so few
you wonder for a sec
can this even be true?

you wake up and breathe
and it's okay to be wrong
and you don't have to be strong
you just need to focus on moving along

you wake up and you smile
and you're the lightest you've felt in a very long while
and you suddenly have the strength to swim
